With
the generous support of the Ontario Trillium Foundation, in February
2007, ASHTOR launched an exciting new initiative: a needs &
assets assessment of Hispanic seniors of the Greater Toronto Area (GTA).
What?
A research
study to discover:
- The
barriers faced by Hispanic seniors living in the GTA
- Their
needs
- Their
assets (knowledge, skills and contributions to the community)
Why?
The research findings will be
used to:
- Advocate
for programs and services that contribute to the wellbeing of
Hispanic seniors in the GTA
- Guide
ASHTOR’s program development
- Increase
the participation of Hispanic seniors in the GTA
How?
The research is conducted
through:
- Survey
(interviews) of a minimum of 120 seniors (aged 55 or older)
- Focus Groups with Hispanic Seniors
- Key
Informant Interviews (people with key information regarding the
well-being of Hispanic seniors in the GTA, such as service
providers, social workers, religious leaders, police, leaders of
Hispanic seniors’ clubs etc.)
When?

ASHTOR began this Project in February 2007

The survey will be administered between the months
of April and June 2007
=
The data will be processed and analyzed following
the data collection phase
=
An Action Plan, based on the study’s findings,
will be developed by January 2008

can you participate?
To participate in this study by
filling out a survey, you must meet the following criteria:
- Be
55 years of age or older
- Speak
Spanish as your first language
- Live
in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA)
